Growing Roots AmeriCorps Team - Recruiting now for 2008-2009 term

Growing Roots is a ten-member AmeriCorps team. Seattle Youth Garden Works is the sponsoring agency that hosts this team. The team has participants serving at the following agencies: YouthCare’s Orion Center, ROOTS Young Adult Shelter, and Seattle Youth Garden Works. All of the agencies work with low-income and/or homeless youth and young adults.

The rest of the selection process includes written screening questions, a phone screening with the AmeriCorps Group Site Manager, and finally an interview with Host Sites. The final steps include checking references and completing a background check.

Activities Coordinator Volunteer, YouthCare's Orion Center

The Activities Coordinator Volunteer (ACV) will be responsible for maintaining existing regular structured activities open to Orion drop-in clients. The ACV will plan and implement new activities as well. The ACV will coordinate all on-site and off-site activities. In addition, the ACV will be responsible for providing support to the Drop-In program.

Garden Coordinator, Seattle Youth Garden Works

Work with Urban Farm and Youth Development Manager (UFYD Manager) to maintain an effective empowerment, employment and educational opportunity for young people 14-21 years old. Primary task is to work with the youth crew, volunteers, other SYGW staff, in the garden, and at the farmer’s market. Maintain the health and productivity of the garden. Due to technical difficulties with the National AmeriCorps website, this position is currently not posted on the national website. Overnight Shelter Lead, ROOTS Young Adult Shelter

Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator, Seattle Youth Garden Works - Sount Youth VISTA

This position recruits, trains, and supports 300+ volunteers for the organization and coordinates all outreach activities to create more awareness of the program in the community which will lead to new donors, new volunteers, youth referrals and more. Work with program and administrative staff to maintain an effective job-training program for youth, ages 14-21, experiencing poverty, homelessness, and institutional oppression. YouthCare's Shelter is an emergency shelter for homeless and/or state dependent 12-17 year olds. The Activities Coordinator Volunteer (ACV) will be responsible for maintaining existing regular structured activities open to Shelter clients. The ACV will plan and implement new activities as well. The ACV will coordinate all on-site and off-site activities. In addition, the ACV will be responsible for providing support to the House Coordinator and Case Manager.
